Highways chiefs in Staffordshire have just four days of grit remaining - but more supplies are expected to start arriving today.
Gritters have already resorted to treating only A and B roads in an effort to conserve dwindling stocks. Bosses had 1,400 tonnes left on Monday morning - enough to last four days -
with a further 200 tonnes due to arrive in the afternoon.
More deliveries are expected throughout the week, though the timing and amount of grit will be decided by central government.
