A father has been jailed for four months after butting another parent following a row when up to 40 teenage girls gathered for a fight.
Richard Wilson butted Sean Carr after they rowed following an incident in which his 13-year-old daughter was allegedly assaulted by a number of girls. Mr Carr got a broken nose in the assault on June 2 last year and was taken to Stafford Hospital for treatment. At Cannock Magistrates Court Wilson admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Miss Emma Thompson, prosecuting, said Wilson, 43, of Trent Close, Stafford, got a call from his daughter to say she had been attacked by a number of girls on fields at Heenan Grove, Rickerscote.
He borrowed a bike to cycle to where up to 40 girls were gathered. He saw two other parents and walked over to Mr Carr.
She said: "He went over to Mr Carr and was behaving in an aggressive manner.
"They had an argument and the defendant headbutted Mr Carr. He was left with a broken nose and had to go to Stafford Hospital."
When he was arrested by police he initially said he headbutted Mr Carr in self defence but then admitted he was in the wrong.
Mr Michael Wetton, defending, said Wilson became angry and upset after the call from his daughter and wasn't thinking properly when he arrived.
He said: "He was very wound up. Something was said and he just reacted. He was concerned about his daughter and reacted badly to the situation. He is very sorry for his actions."
Jailing Wilson for four months yesterday Mr Roy Middleton, chairman of the magistrates, said: "This was a very nasty assault in which this man suffered a broken nose and had to receive hospital treatment. I realise emotions were running high but this was totally unnacceptable behaviour.
"We have no choice but to send you to custody.
