Despite her flawless audition at judge Simon Cowell's Los Angeles home, Treyc Cohen failed to make the grade, and millions saw her given the boot last weekend.

The 25-year-old, who is in her second year studying popular music at the Walsall campus of the University of Wolverhampton, is back working on course assignments.

And far from being disappointed, the solo singer said her confidence in her abilities had grown during her time on the show.

Treyc, who lives in Tamworth with partner Nick, 26, travelled last month with rivals in the over-25s category to Cowell's home. "The experience was absolutely amazing," she told the Express & Star.

"I had never been to America before, and to be given the opportunity to go to Simon's house was out of this world. We only really saw him during the filming but he was a lovely host. Everything in the house was black and white, and it was pristine and absolutely beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the experience.

"I was nervous going through the early auditions but as I progressed through the stages, my confidence grew.

"I honestly don't feel hard done by at all. It's given me the confirmation I needed and the experience of the music industry.

"If anything, it's just spurred me to carry on with my dream of becoming a pop singer.

"I've got a big family and massive support network around me. Everyone's been great, and I've had some lovely comments from people on YouTube and on the X Factor website."

She also tipped Simon's remaining three male contestants to produce this year's winner of the competition.

"I think he's got the winner," she said.
