Man at station leaps to death
A man leapt to his death at Smethwick's Galton Bridge station and trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham were halted.
A man leapt to his death at Smethwick's Galton Bridge station and trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham were halted.
The man is believed to have to have jumped from a platform at around 1.40pm yesterday.
Police cordoned off the pedestrian bridge over tracks, and the line between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton was closed.
One train was cancelled and 120 other services were affected.
Rail tickets were accepted on buses while the closure was in place from 1.40pm to 3pm. Trains between Birmingham and Liverpool and Shrewsbury were diverted via Bescot.
The young man jumped in front of the Manchester to Exeter cross-country train from the Birmingham-bound platform.
Jemma Bavage, spokeswoman for British Transport Police, confirmed a man had died on the line.
"Police were called to the incident at 1.40pm yesterday and it is not being treated as suspicious."
