More protests have been held at Smethwick chicken factory 2 Sisters as 55 employees face disciplinary action over unofficial walkouts.

The company suspended the workers from the 2 Sisters Food Group plant in Bevan Way, on the Alpha Business Park, earlier this month, following an unauthorised strike, after staff claimed a senior shop steward was suspended.

Police were called during the strike when the staff held a sit-in in the factory canteen.

The firm, which supplies chicken products to households names, employs hundreds and immediately suspended striking workers.

In a statement, 2 Sisters said: "A total of 55 employees were suspended a fortnight ago due to unofficial industrial action."

He said 2 Sisters is dealing with the issue in line with company policy.
