Pigs have been drafted in to eat problem plants and help the growth of trees in the Wyre Forest.

The creatures graze on the roots of bramble and bracken which can smother trees and other plants if not kept under control.

Machinery and chemical herbicides have previously been used to control the invasive weeds but it hoped the new environmentally friendly method will prove just as effective.

The three pigs will be living in an enclosed area of woodland near Uncllys Farm until early winter and will then return for a similar length of time next year.

It is hoped that by reducing the bramble it will help to create better conditions for the re-establishment of a diverse range of plants.ÊPigs are now recognised in the conservation sector for their valuable contribution to woodland management.
