Police sealed off a residential street in Wolverhampton for several hours and arrested a man on suspicion of assault.
Neighbours on Filey Road in Fordhouses claimed the drama involved a hostage situation involving a man and a teenage girl.
Around 50 metres of the road was sealed off by police and around 20 officers spent several hours at the scene after arriving at around 4pm yesterday.
Some people whose homes were inside the cordon were prevented from entering until it was lifted later in the evening.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "Apparently there was a man holding a girl. Some people couldn't get into their houses."
West Midlands police said a 28-year-old man wanted on suspicion of assault was arrested and is helping with inquiries.
