After four minutes Wayne Brown's superb cross to the back post picked out Terry Morton unmarked, but he could only guide his header into the side netting.

Goole had their first foray forward on 10 minutes, former Football League striker Leo Fortune-West mis-hit his volley just wide of the target.

Willenhall picked up a free-kick on the edge of the area after 13 minutes and Gavin Saunders' cross being well punched away by Craig Parry.

But an error from the Goole keeper led to Willenhall's goal on 22 minutes.

Firstly he mis-controled the ball, gifting Willenhall a corner. From the corner a hand ball inside the area gave the Lockmen a penalty, which captain Saunders fired into the top corner.

Just after the half hour mark, Adam Lee had an effort for Goole which Willenhall debutant Amritjoyt Kler saved down low.

On 36 minutes a poor clearance from Goole gave Morton the time and space to hit a low 20-yard shot which Parry did well to turn away. The second half was a much tighter affair, but on 56 minutes Saunders curled an effort just wide.

Late on Goole had a penalty appeal but Troy Douglin was adjudged to have won the ball cleanly.
