Police say that the woman victim, who has not been named, was knocked to the floor, kicked and punched by the women as she was making a call from a phone kiosk in Castle Road by the junction with New Road
at about 1.45am on Friday.
Her handbag also went missing. and the victim needed hospital treatment.
PC Derya Mustafa said: "We'd like to speak to anyone who may have seen this attack and, in particular, a taxi driver who was waiting at traffic lights opposite the kiosk."
Two women have been arrested on suspicion of assault and released on police bail until July 23, pending further inquiries.
