Madonna allowed to adopt child

Madonna's controversial bid to adopt a second child from Malawi has been approved.

The pop star appealed after a lower court rejected her application to adopt Chifundo "Mercy" James, a four-year-old girl, in April.

The country's highest court announced its decision to allow the adoption.

Madonna had appealed against a ruling that she could not adopt "Mercy" because she hadn't been screened over time by Malawi authorities.
