A goat has been found wandering along a canal towpath in the Black Country with blood pouring from a throat wound inflicted in an act of cruelty "beyond comprehension", the RSPCA said.

The goat – just a few weeks old – was discovered in Smethwick by a member of the public with a two inch slash across its neck and an illegally docked tail.

RSPCA staff, who have named the goat Branston Pickle, treated him and he is now recovering at an animal centre in Shropshire.
