The police Range Rover was pursuing the heavy goods vehicle after it failed to stop.

Witnesses told of at least six police cars speeding through Wednesbury and West Bromwich as it tried to bring the vehicle to a halt.

But it crashed into a parked Mercedes A Class, opposite a dental surgery in Hill Top, after apparently being pushed by the lorry. It was eventually stopped when police deployed a 'stinger' which is designed to puncture tyres.

The car had been parked facing the traffic lights but the force of the shunt left it diagonally across the kerb.

Police officers remained on the scene of the crash as other vehicles continued the pursuit along Black Lake through West Bromwich in the direction of Birmingham.

Pc Bill Ashton, of Central Motorway Policing Group said: "All I can say at this stage is that a heavy goods vehicle failed to stop for police, it pushed a police car into a parked vehicle."

The owner of the Mercedes is 25-year-old Dr Arthis Danial, a dentist at Pen Twyn Dental Surgery.

A man has been arrested.
