Two sets of major roadworks start in the Cannock area on Monday leaving motorists facing disruption. Utility works are to serve new homes.

They will lead to the closure of Walkmill Lane at its junction with the A5 Watling Street for six days between 7.30am on Monday and 4.30pm on Saturday.

Electricity, gas, water and sewer works will be carried out. All National Express West Midlands buses on the 351 route will be operating on a diversion during this time.

This will be along Vine Lane, left Watling Street and North Street.

Meanwhile, resurfacing work will take place on the A460 near to junction 11 of the M6 .

The £250,000 scheme will be carried out for five nights between 10pm and 6am. During those hours, both slip roads will be closed.

The A462 will be shut off from the roundabout with a diversion via Wolverhampton Road and Saredon Road, on to the A460. The A460 will remain in operation across the island using temporary traffic lights.

Jeremy Herbert, of Staffordshire County Council said: "This major resurfacing scheme will bring significant improvements to that section of the highway.

"We shall be working with the Highways Agency on the resurfacing of the island. This will take place overnight from 10pm-6am to minimise disruption. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
