Two teenage school pupils were arrested after a 14-year-old was stabbed during a brawl just yards from his school near Willenhall.
Violence flared outside Moseley Park School, Portobello, between pupils who had skipped class and at least one child from another school.
The young victim was rushed to New Cross Hospital for stitches after being found injured in Bunkers Hill Lane. He suffered a minor stab wound and is now recovering at home.
A 13-year was detained by police in a classroom at the school soon after the fight, at around 11am on Wednesday. Police said he was not armed when arrested in connection with the incident.
He is among a handful of students being kept away from the Wolverhampton City Council school while police continue their inquiries. Teachers said it was unclear how the youngsters got out of the school grounds as the main gate is electronically controlled and all other entrances are locked during lesson times.
Headteacher Lorraine McCarthy said: "The safety of our students is a major priority. I would urge parents to encourage their children to stay on site, where they will be safe."
The 13-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested and bailed by police.
