The falling price of metal could to be blame for a recent rise in car fires, say firefighters in Brierley Hill.

The station's green watch was called out to reports of a car blaze in Blewitt Street, Pensnett, near the entrance of Fens Pool Nature Reserve around 12.30am today.

Crew commander Andy Lewis said: "Since the price of metal started to fall we have been called out on more car fires.

"We know kids will still set cars on fire but when they know they can get a lot for the scrap metal it seems they are less likely to do so."
