Adhesives firm Bostik has announced plans to shed 120 jobs in Staffordshire.

Unions are being consulted by the Stafford-based firm over the proposals.

The firm blamed the move on a slump in trade and said it hoped any redundancies will be voluntary. In a statement released yesterday, Bostik said the losses could affect all types of workers at Stafford and its two other sites - Chester and Leicester.

The company, known locally as Evode and behind famous brands such as Blu-Tack, employs about 200 people at the Stafford plant and 600 nationally.

It is thought many of Bostik's glues and other products are supplied to the construction and motoring industries and the slump in these sectors has contributed to its problems.

No-one at the Common Road site was available for comment today.
