About £6 million of the £9 million belonging to Wyre Forest District Council and trapped in Icelandic banks could be returned, it has been announced today.

Council leader councillor John Campion has said that he is "optimistic" about money invested overseas coming back.

It follows ongoing discussions which have shown that the administrators acting for two United Kingdom banks with money invested in Icelandic partners have been assured that assets will more than equal liabilities.

The councillor said: "We are very optimistic that we will get the money back."
