Parents win fight on future of school

Parents have won a two-year campaign against moves to close a popular Wyre Forest school.
Worcestershire County Council wanted to shut Lickhill Primary School in Almond Way and merge it with Stourport Primary in a new £6.6 million building.
Parents formed action group Stourport Parents in favour of Choice in Education and governors sought foundation status, allowing them to appeal to the schools adjudicator.
Now the office of the schools adjudicator has said that proposals to shut the school have been rejected.
Graeme Harvey, spokesman for the campaign group Spice, said: "We are pleased the school is no longer threatened by closure and its children should now be able to look forward to a future free of the uncertainty and disruption that has been forced upon them by the county council."
Councillor Liz Eyre, of Worcestershire County Council, said the authority did not intend to challenge the decision.
