South Staffordshire College has been formed by the merger of Rodbaston, Cannock and Tamworth and Lichfield colleges.

Around 300 members of staff paid to go to The Hilton Birmingham Metropole last night to hear speeches from Olympic runner Roger Black as well as the college's chief executive principal Graham Morley and chairman Ray Faulkner.

It was also the first time staff from the four campuses could socialise with each other since the college opened its doors on Monday.

Michelle Dowse, spokesman for South Staffordshire College, said: "It's a celebration event about inspiring our people to become world-class and the exciting opportunities ahead for the new super-college."
