Major alterations which are costing £240,000 are to be carried out at Kidderminster Police Station's landmark building in Habberley Road.
The work has been ordered to help improve facilities for callers including people with disabilities.
Work on improvements to the station's front counter area will include push-button doors but the existing doors and pillars will remain. Work will start on January 5 and is expected to be completed at the end of March. It will be carried out in two phases.
The first phase to construct a temporary counter at the front of the main police station is expected to be completed by January 16.
Police say the counter area will be clearly signposted and will be open from 8am to 10pm and there will also be disabled parking spaces provided nearby.
West Mercia Police facilities manager for the north Worcestershire division Graham May said: "Kidderminster Police Station is something of a landmark building and we want to reassure people its overall appearance will not greatly change.
"The front doors and pillars will remain in place but will be housed in a glass frontage. The new counter facilities will provide an easily accessible and more pleasant environment."
