Workers at a Stafford engineering firm are facing job cuts as it looks to make 150 redundancies.

Perkins Engines is shedding office staff at its site in Tixall Road, as well as at its other operations in Peterborough and Manchester.

All temporary officer workers are to be made redundant, and voluntary redundancy will be offered to permanent office staff. It is not yet known exactly how many jobs will be going at the Stafford plant.

The firm, which manufactures diesel engines, has made the decision after being hit hard by the economic downturn.

Company spokeswoman Marion King said: "Perkins is releasing temporary office workers due to a slow down in demand for products made at its operations in the United Kingdom.

"We are also proposing a voluntary severance programme for our permanent office staff. "We regret that this action is necessary."
