A young Kidderminster filmmaker has beaten off scores of competitors to win the chance to make a short comedy film with the BBC.
David Poole, aged 19, a second year student on an HND filmmaking course at Kidderminster College, has won a bursary worth £3,000 to work with the head of comedy at the BBC on a new project.
David's new comedy short will be featured as part of a BBC programme scheduled to be shown on BBC2 in 2009.
The keen student said today: "As I was up against serious professionals from all over the country I was a bit taken aback to win.
"But the evidence is there that the BBC think I'm up for it, I'm delighted." As part of his course David also completed a comedy piece about a man who is trying to read a book on a park bench and is constantly distracted by noise and activities going on around him.
David added: "It is a comic glimpse of something that happens to me quite a lot. I want to have peace and I can get quite irritated when I don't. I thought I would use that to comic effect."
The film he worked on at Kidderminster features just a few words of dialogue and is mainly silent. It will be shown on BBC2 at 4am tomorrow.
Dr Roger Cottrell, HND film making course leader at Kidderminster College, said: "This is great news for David, but it's also great news for Kidderminster College and what we are trying to achieve in film.
"Without doubt David is a creative student."
