A total of 100 people have signed up to receive one-to-one health tips as part of £60,000 pilot scheme in the Wyre Forest district.

People will be helped to lose weight, stop smoking, be more active and drink less.

Residents wishing to get in shape may even be able to qualify for free WeightWatchers classes. Candidates go through a 12-week programme and are given advice on how to get in shape or cut down on alcohol.

The pilot scheme for health trainers started in mid August.

Senior health trainer Jayne McCullough said: "We are delighted that so many people in the community are seeking our advice to improve their health and lifestyles. Sometimes people don't know where to start, or need extra help to stick to a health programme and we are here to support them, whatever their health goals.

Richard Harling, Director of Public Health at Worcestershire Primary Care Trust, said: "Health trainers bring a new approach to improving the health and wellbeing of people within their own community. They can offer support to anyone over the age of 16 and are there to motivate, encourage and advise individuals to develop personal health plans.

"To hit the 100 client mark so soon after launching the service in Wyre Forest is wonderful, and a real testament to the great service that the health trainers offer."
