A pupil had to be cut free by firefighters when he nailed his wrist to a piece of wood during a woodwork lesson.

Fire and ambulance crews were called to help the boy, thought to be aged 13.

The accident happened at Wolverley High School, near Kidderminster, just after 1pm yesterday.

Firefighter Warren Midgley said: "He must have been in a lot of pain but he was a brave little soldier.

"He wasn't making too much fuss. The nail had gone though the soft part of the flesh on his arm.

"We used a small saw to release him."

Headteacher at the school, Richard North, said: "There was an accident with a nail and we called for first aid and the boy was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital but it is believed his injuries were not too serious according to ambulance crews.

No-one could confirm the boy's condition today.
