A six-month-old baby had a lucky escape after a car ploughed into his home in Chadsmoor moments after his parents put him in a car at the exact same spot.

A BMW crashed into the Cannock Road house causing extensive damage.

The property is being rented by Tim Brown, aged 28.

The male driver, who is believed to be aged in his early 20s with dark hair, fled the scene in the car.

The crash happened at around 11.10am on Saturday as the car was driving towards Cannock.

The driver lost control at a roundabout before smashing into the terraced house.

Cannock Road was sealed off for a number of hours until structural engineers assessed the property.

Mr Brown and his partner Carrie Milhan, also 28, escaped serious injuries.

He said: "We had just put my baby son Anthony into my dad's car to go shopping right outside the front of the house. It was less than two minutes later and we heard this loud crash and you could feel the whole house shake."

Sergeant Richard Holt, from Cannock police station, said: "We would appeal to any witnesses who saw the crash or the BMW car before or after the incident to come forward."

Sergeant Holt also urged the driver to hand himself in. Anyone with information can contact Pc Mark Slayney at Cannock on 0300 123 44 55 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
