A rapist has been locked up for attacking a 59-year-old woman on a building site in Kidderminster after she had missed her bus home.

His victim saw her attacker, 19, sentenced to four and a half years in a young offenders institution.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stared straight at Kye Calder, who held his head in his hands as he sat in the dock.

Calder, of Baxter Avenue, Kidderminster, admitted raping the woman on a building site in Kidderminster town centre after she missed her bus home to Worcester on January 29.

Mr Jonas Hankin, prosecuting, told Worcester crown court the woman missed her last bus and met Calder, then 18, who had been drinking. He offered to take her home but instead took her to the building site where he pushed her down and practically stripped her in carrying out the attack.

She screamed for help but workers found her in a distressed state next morning.

Calder was arrested later that day. He told police that he had been drunk and that the woman was also drunk and had consented to kissing. Mr Hankin said that this version was not accepted by the prosecution.

Calder's previous convictions included one for unlawful sex with a girl, 13, when he was 15.

Miss Lynette McClemment, defending, said that Calder was an immature young man who now regretted an impulsive and unpleasant act. He had been subjected to bullying during his 181 days in custody and would for ever be stigmatised by the offence.

Ordering Calder to sign the sex offender's register for life, Judge John Cavell said that it was fortunate that his victim had not suffered serious physical injury although she was mentally scarred.
