Staffordshire Highways wants to enforce the current no entry signs for the railway bridge on Girton Road and plans to put bollards in "imminently" as part of a wider scheme to improve road safety in the Rumer Hill area.
Drivers are still using it as a short cut between Lichfield Road and Walsall Road despite the signs being in place for more than a year.
Some businesses in Girton Road have reported a downturn in passing trade since the signs were put up and some members of the Rumer Hill Residents Association have also objected to the bollards being installed.
