His family today paid tribute to him, saying he was "a happy and kind person who was loved by everyone he met".

Mr Yacoub, who was in his late 30s and also known as James, lived in Norton, Stourbridge.

He died shortly after midnight, about an hour after he was discovered with a serious head injury in Castle Road, on Thursday.

He had been enjoying a night out with friends in pubs around the town on the night he died.

A resident found him lying on the ground near the former Zanzibar nightclub and he was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Born in Baghdad, Mr Yacoub moved to Britain in 1991 and was a foreman at Hartlebury garden firm, Forest Garden.

His family today described him as a loving brother to sisters Susan and Nabeha, who both live in the Black Country, and brother Kadhear and sister Suham in Baghdad. He was also uncle to six nieces and nephews – Ali, Mysoon, Mohammed, Peter, Margaret and Elizabeth.

In a statement his family said: "Fazel was cruelly taken away on October 16.

"He was loved by all who met him. He had a lovely, happy personality and was very kind. He would regularly tell stories that would make us cry – either with laughter or sadness.

"We would like to thank everyone for their support at this difficult time."

Mr Yacoub's body is being flown back to Baghdad for burial.

Lukasz Tombak, aged 26, of Stourbridge Road, Kidderminster, appeared before Kidderminster magistrates yesterday charged with the manslaughter of Mr Yacoub.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Worcester Crown Court on October 28.
