A woman has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of a mother-of-two in Kidderminster.

Police launched an investigation following reports that the mother had fallen down some stairs at a house in the Offmore area of town. They today said they are treating the death as "unexplained".

Officers with West Mercia Police were called by members of the West Midlands Ambulance Service to the house in Offmore area at 2am on Saturday.

It followed reports that a woman had fallen down some stairs. The mother-of-two, aged 49, from the Wyre Forest area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said today that a woman had been arrested at the house on suspicion of manslaughter and had been bailed by police on Saturday evening until October 29, pending further enquiries.

Although formal identification of the dead woman has taken place and a post mortem was carried out yesterday, police say the cause of her death has not yet been established.

They are now awaiting the results of further tests to determine the cause.

Detective Sergeant Duncan Lloyd, of West Mercia Police said: "We are speaking to a number of people in connection with this matter and the death is currently being treated as unexplained."

l Meanwhile police have launched a murder inquiry after the death of a man found lying injured in a street in Kidderminster.

The man, in his late 30s, was found injured in Castle Road shortly after 11pm on Friday. He was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital where he later died.

Police are trying to discover the circumstances surrounding the death after people living locally claimed they heard a group of people arguing as they walked towards the town centre.

A man was today helping police with inquiries.
