Vandals tore through a Stourbridge park, ripping up safety barriers and floral displays in a "one-night rampage of destruction."
Damage at Stevens Park, Wollescote, will cost thousands of pounds to put right, according to police.
Vandals pulled safety barriers between the play equipment from their metal posts and smashed glass across the site.
Flowers at the park's bowling green were also ripped up and left strewn in the road. Police were forced to close off the play area completely as the damage left metal posts jagged and a safety risk.
Five barriers were damaged and will cost £200 each to replace. Labour costs will increase the cost to more than £1,000.
The attack in the early hours of Saturday was reported by park users.
It comes as the area has just been given a grant of £20,000 to spend on more facilities for young people.
No one from The Friends of Stevens Park group was available for comment.
