A century-old block of shops in Wolverhampton that has been home to butchers, hairdressers and newsagents over the years is on the market for £300,000.
The precinct, which is home to six shops and three flats on Wolverhampton's Stafford Road, has been put up for sale by 79-year-old landlord Roy Kay. But the move means there is uncertainty around the future of the businesses who are waiting to find out exactly what changes could be introduced by a new landlord when he or she takes control.
Mr Kay, of Wightwick, said the building started life as a private house and was converted into businesses by his father Cyril decades ago.
Today, it holds Kings TV, Oxley News & Booze, Russell Hardware, Danuta Hairdressers and Wisebuys furniture shop. There is also an empty store where Kay's Butchers stood for 80 years and a three, two and one-bedroom flat.
Mr Kay, who owns the property with his 65-year-old sister Barbara, lived and worked there during his career as a butcher at the family shop.
He said he hoped his decision to sell up would not affect the businesses.
"They will understand," he said. "They know I am getting on a bit now and that change happens. I do think this will be big news in Oxley."
Manager of Kings TV Douglas Jones said he understood Mr Kay's decision to move on but was unsure about the future.
The 57-year-old said: "I am not very happy about it to be honest.
"Times change and we won't know what's going on until the ink has dried on the new lease. The landlord could want to redevelop the site or charge us a lot more in rent. We are just going to have to wait and see, nothing is ever certain in business."
The television shop has been on the site for 16 years.
Mr Jones added: "We've done well here over the years.
Mr Kay, who is married to 74-year-old Doreen and has a 49-year-old daughter Jackie, is now taking enquiries on the property on 01902 764528. Two flats are occupied and one is empty.
