Hearty pirate fun promised at libraries

Tales of adventure on the high seas and buried treasure will be keeping youngsters entertained at two Wyre Forest libraries.

The pirate-themed events are being held by Worcestershire County Council.

The hearty fun is all part of National Bookstart Week.

Kidderminster Library will hold a pirate party for under-fives on October 10 from 9.30am to noon where there will be a host of pirate activities taking place.

Little Captain Jack Sparrows will be kept entertained by pirate on stilts Andrew Healey who will make parrots and swords out of balloons while Karla Vickery will be painting children's faces.

Also all youngsters who borrow a book on the day will be entered into a free Pirate Puppet prize draw.

Stourport Library will also be joining in the fun on October 9 when they hold a Jolly Roger Story Time.

Children under five will be invited to dress up as pirates for the event from 10.30am.

The Jolly Rodger Story Time will keep children entertained with crafts, rhymes and pirate stories.

Stourport librarian Maureen Hobbs said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for parents, careers and children to get enthusiastic about reading.
