Flood victims told to apply for cash help

Emergency grant aid has been made available to help Kidderminster residents hit by flooding earlier this month.

People affected during the severe rainfall on September 5, 6 and 7 can claim a £250 flood aid grant.

Surface water caused damage to a small number of houses in the Wyre Forest on those dates.

Residents who are the householder, owner-occupier or tenant living within the boundaries of Wyre Forest and suffered flooding to their home on those dates are eligible to apply.

The help will go to those people whose homes have been badly damaged inside by floodwater or sewerage but not those where damage has been done to garages, outbuildings, gardens and basement cellars.

Application forms are now available from the Worcestershire Hub and on-line at www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk

Council leaders say the forms are simple and quick to fill in and they aim to have grants issued within 14 days of receiving the completed forms.

Leader of Wyre Forest District Council Councillor John Campion said: "The Council recognises that some properties have been flooded three times in the last 15 months, so it is important that we get this money out to people as quickly as possible.

"Although the number of properties affected this year was relatively small, we are committed to doing all we can for residents.

"Hopefully this grant will go some way towards enabling them to fund repairs or future flood prevention measures."
