Wolves fans were celebrating after just 19 seconds last night when their side went 1-0 up against Crystal Palace.

Sylvan Ebanks Blake's goal is believed to be the fastest ever at Molineux and the club's quickest since John Richards' 15-second effort during a 5-1 win at Burnley on November 15, 1975. Fan Fred Clowes, who sits in the Billy Wright Upper Stand, said many supporters were out of their seats when the ball hit the back of the net.

The 60-year-old company director, of Malvern Close, Willenhall, said: "It was unbelievable - it took everyone by surprise. I'd barely sat down before I was up again. I can't remember a quicker home goal than that."

Boss Mick McCarthy said the shock goal "galvanised" the opposition and he was extremely proud of his players, who won the game 2-1. The fastest-ever league goal was scored after just four seconds by Bradford Park Avenue's Jim Fryatt on April 25, 1964.
