Overgrown pathway to town will be resurfaced

A former Kidderminster bridleway used as a pathway into the town centre is to be cleared following complaints it has become overgrown and dangerous.

The path, which runs from the Spennells estate into the town centre, is causing problems for people using the route with prams and in wheelchairs.

It has become overgrown with weeds, and the surface, made of rock and stones, is hazardous, say residents.

Campaigners have called for action for the past two years.

Worcestershire County Council has now agreed to allocate several thousands of pounds to carry out the work before Christmas.

This will see a major part of the route resurfaced with 140 tonnes of crushed ash and overhanging vegetation cut back to leave a safe and unobstructed pathway. Officials say the new surface will enable it to be easily accessible for people with prams and wheelchair users.

Councillor John Aston, a member of Wyre Forest District Council, said: "I am delighted this work is finally going to be carried out.

"I have been campaigning for this for more than 18 months. The bridleway path is seriously overgrown, and youngsters have been using the rocks and stones for throwing from a nearby viaduct."
