The vicious attack happened on the Morrisons car park, off Oxford Street before 3.40am today.

It happened during a weekend of violence which left two men and more wounded elsewhere across the region.

The sex attack victim had been on a night out in Kidderminster town centre and was walking home when she was brutally assaulted by a stranger who grabbed her from behind.

The injured woman was discovered by a passerby and she had regained consciousness when paramedics arrived.

The area where the attack took place is well lit and only recently new floodlights have been installed on the car park area to increase security.

A derelict building has also been demolished to make a new access point onto New Road and has opened up views of the car parking area off New Road. Elizabeth Gadsby, from Spennells, Kidderminster, said that she had been "alarmed" by the attack.

She said: "You don't expect something like this on one of the town's main car parking areas. It has only recently been improved with the installation of new floodlights."

Detectives were today making door-to-door enquiries and studying closed circuit television tapes while scenes of crimes officers were carrying out forensic checks at the scene.

The area of the car park, off Oxford Street and New Road, was today cordoned off and a police tent erected. Duty force Inspector Clive Eastwood said that the woman was helping police with inquiries.
