Appeal over medals owner
War medals, pendants and a silver pen which hold great sentimental value to their owners have been handed into police in Cannock.
War medals, pendants and a silver pen which hold great sentimental value to their owners have been handed into police in Cannock.
Officers are hoping to reunite the items with their owners after kind hearted members of the public found them and brought them into the station.
One of the items is a Defence Medal, which would have been awarded for three months service in the United Kingdom during the Second World War, or six months overseas in a non-operational area at risk of aerial attack.
Police are having difficulty identifying the other one, but it appears to be similar. The medals were found on July 17 by a resident of Almond Close in Heath Hayes along with a gold pendant containing colour photographs of two children.
A few days later, on July 21, another person found a silver pendant and a silver pen, inscribed with a hallmark and engraved with the words "Peggy's Pen".
They were seen in Wharf Lane on the border between Brownhills and Norton Canes.
Det Sgt Neil Poultney of Cannock Police's burglary unit said: "We believe these items were taken during a burglary, possibly by a bogus caller."
Anyone who believes they know the owners of the items can call DS Poultney on 08453 302010.
