Eleven primary schools have been included on a list of 20mph speed restriction zones proposed in the Wyre Forest region, it was revealed today.
They are among 75 location earmarked for the new zones. Other safety measures such as vehicle-activated warning signs or traffic-calming schemes could be used to slow down traffic near 170 other schools in Worcestershire which have been left off the list.
There are already two 20mph zones at Astley CE and Bayton CE Primary Schools in Wyre Forest.
Road safety officials want to see lower limits introduced near school buildings to help reduce the death and injury toll on local roads.
Schools included are Birchen Coppice Community Primary, Foley Park Community Primary, Franche Primary, Offmore Primary7, St Ambrose Catholic Primary, St George's CE Primary and Nursery, St Mary's CE Primary, St Oswald's CE Primary and Sutton Park Community Primary, all based in Kidderminster.
Cabinet members have agreed that the speed management document should now go out for consultation in September and October to allow district and parish councillors to have their say on whether the restrictions would be a good idea.
