Yobs destroyed floral displays in Kidderminster town centre for the second time in three weeks.

Traders and shoppers woke up to find a trail of destruction in Worcester Street today after vandals tore out plants and upturned planting pots.

Soil and flowers were strewn across the busy street with petals torn up and one of the displays, shaped like a tower, left lying on its side with the plants crushed beneath.

The planters contained around 400 flowers each and it is not known if they will now be replaced. Bosses from Wyre Forest District Council branded the attacks as "mindless vandalism".

It is the second time the displays have been attacked since they were installed around three weeks ago.

In the earlier attack vandals destroyed displays outside Kidderminster Town Hall and other parts of the town, leaving an estimated bill of £4,000 to replace them.

Wyre Forest District Council leader Jon Campion said: "We are not going to stop trying to make the town a more attractive place because of these acts of mindless vandalism.

"We will be looking at ways we can improve the security of these displays in the future. Also CCTV will be used to find the culprits."
