A taxi driver has been jailed after indecently assaulting a woman customer he had collected from a Wolverhampton nightspot.

Father-of-two Sarbjit Singh put his hand in the front of the woman's top.

The city's crown court also heard he made lewd comments.

The 34-year-old then ignored warnings the victim would report him and assaulted her again.

Prosecutor John Evans said the cabbie struck after collecting the fare from Chicago Rock Cafe in the early hours of July 22 last year.

Singh, from Birmingham Street, Willenhall was a licensed driver working for A-Z Taxis, the court was told.

Mr Evans said when the woman got into the front passenger seat, Singh commented on her figure and asked if she had "pulled".

"He continued making lewd comments and, after stopping the taxi, put his hand into her sleeveless top," said Mr Evans. "She pushed his hand away and threatened to report him but he reached over again and grabbed hold of her."

Singh claimed his fare had never turned up at Chicago Rock Cafe when quizzed by detectives, but admitted indecent assault on the day the case was due to be tried by a jury.

Recorder William Davis, QC jailed Singh, who was of previous good character, for 28 days.
