British Waterways is behind the plans to change a former workshop store into an eaterie which would have 30 diners seated outside and 24 on the terrace.

It is also hoped some of the stable can become a museum which will be next to a new visitor point.

The workshop will be renovated to retain old features and a modern glazed entrance added at the front. However a dilapidated section will be demolished to form a kitchen area.

An existing stable nearby will be used as a visitor information point to store leaflets. An area above the stable will be used to create an office for town group Stourport Forward from which it will manage and organise community events.

New plans have been submitted to Wyre Forest District Council this month.

A report to planners states: "The proposed cafe forms part of an overall masterplan to regenerate the basin area. Provision of eating services within the basin is considered to be a core facility for the encouragement of increased visitor numbers to the basin area."
