McDonald'sFast food giant McDonald's has pulled out of Stourbridge High Street unexpectedly after 20 years at the site in a further blow to trade in the town.

The big name takeaway has been a long-running fixture at the top of the High Street but it has been boarded up after suddenly shutting its doors for the final time this week.

A spokeswoman for McDonalds said the chain had axed the outlet because "trading patterns have changed" and it was "no longer suitable" to retain the restaurant.

The news comes after a cafe bar which had formed the heart of the town's Ryemarket shopping centre shut without warning.

Morelli's used to attract hundreds of shoppers a day and was a popular meeting spot but its closure last month left a large empty space in the middle of the indoor shopping precinct.

Councillor Les Jones, ward member for Pedmore and Stourbridge East, said trade in the town was a worry but the closure was not due to a wider malaise.
