Extension plan for schools

Extensions are needed at schools in the Wyre Forest District to cater for an influx of pupils after all middle schools were axed in a shake-up.

Proposals have been put forward to extend Foley Park Community Primary School, Kidderminster and the former Wribbenhall Middle School, Bewdley.

Extensions are expected to be announced for several other schools in the future.

The developments aim to bring facilities at the schools up to date and prevent the use of temporary classrooms.

A call for extensions at Foley Park Community Primary School in Kidderminster was due to be considered today.

Members of Worcestershire County Council's planning and regulatory committee were being recommended to give approval and call for them to be built within the next three years.

The local authority wants to extend the school in Northumberland Avenue to cater for modern day needs and also to build a nursery room with separate entrance.

Committee members were also considering a scheme to convert the former Wribbenhall Middle School at Bewdley into a primary school and Children's Centre.The council wants to extend the former middle school buildings to create a primary school.

Although residents living on Stourport Road raised concerns about road safety hazards, councillors want to go ahead with the plans so long as road safety measures are carried out before July 31.

The primary school would cater for 315 pupils with 25 spaces for an early years nursery as well as a new proposed Children's Centre.
