The property in Alveley has a total of seven bedrooms including a staff apartment and is set in grounds of two acres.

With house prices falling in the region, there may be limited demand for a property costing more than a million.

But the owner says it is unique, because it is the last home in the village to be built using sandstone from a former nearby quarry. It also has views to die for, the perfect antidote to a hard day at the office.

Retired Roger Tustin, aged 57, has lived in the property for eight years.

He said today: "It has a very nice feel to it and is a very comfortable place to live. I am told it was built at the turn of the century in 1900 and I believe it was made with sandstone from a quarry which used to be around 100 yards away.

"Before I moved in, I think, it had a former use as a nursing home and of course it was the old vicarage for St Mary's Church, which built a rectory around 20 years ago now.

"It is a magic family home, and I am only moving because it is too big now. The views are fabulous, the property is very well proportioned, and the village itself is wonderful – it has a very homely feel."

It has just gone on the market through estate agents Berriman Eaton which describes it as "a substantial and well proportioned detached gentleman's country residence with elevated views over the adjourning countryside."

It also features a drawing room, dining room, conservatory, farmhouse kitchen, sitting room, laundry room and an office.

It has five bedrooms and two bathrooms on the first floor, with two separate bedrooms independently accessed to the second floor.

The property also has planning permission to extend on the side to provide a four-car garage with games room above.

Sarah Edwards from Berriman Eaton added: "It is something which is just a bit different, and I think it would be ideal as a family home."
