Relatives of Bryan Hodgkiss today paid tribute to him and said he was a genuine person who always had a smile on his face.

In a statement, his family said: "Bryan was a loving husband, father of two sons aged 16 and 19, son, brother and uncle, who lived life to the full and was always seen with a smile on his face.

"A more genuine man you could not meet."

The 46-year-old was a team leader at Toyota's Burnaston plant in Derbyshire and his family said he was sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

Mr Hodgkiss, of Lea Hall Lane in Rugeley, was found in the town centre near to The Shrew pub in Market Street at around 3.40am on Saturday. He was taken to Stafford Hospital and died there on Sunday night.

A post mortem revealed he died from head injuries.

South Staffordshire Coroner Andrew Haigh has been informed of his death but an inquest has not yet been opened.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw Mr Hodgkiss around the time of the incident or who was in the Market Street area to get in touch. It is thought they could have information which would help police.

* Mark Thomas Harrison, aged 35, from Holyoake Place, Rugeley, appeared before Cannock Magistrates Court on Monday charged with the manslaughter of Mr Hodgkiss. He was remanded in custody to appear before Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday.
