Christopher PriestA football fan killed after the Second City Derby was today named as 26-year-old Christopher Priest. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Mr Priest, an Aston Villa supporter, was knocked down by a car following the clash with Birmingham City.

A 20-year-old, also a Villa fan, was arrested last night and was still being quizzed by police today.

Mr Priest was hit by a Volkswagen Golf car close to Villa Park as thousands of fans poured from the stadium following the game.

He suffered severe injuries and later died at Birmingham's City Hospital. Police spokeswoman Sarah Astbury revealed both the victim and driver of the vehicle allegedly involved were Villa supporters.

"The motive for the incident is unclear at this stage and we are continuing to investigate," she added.

Witnesses reportedly said hand gestures were exchanged with the car driver before the victim was knocked down in Aston Hall Road, Aston, shortly before 3pm yesterday, around an hour after the end of the match at Villa Park.

Emergency services received a number of calls and police sealed off the area. Ambulance crews treated the victim at the scene before taking him to City Hospital.
