Dumped tyresParishioners have been left horrified after tyres were dumped in the grounds of a Stourbridge church – and right next to a war memorial.

Flytippers struck at Holy Trinity Church, in High Street, Wordsley, offloading the huge pile of tyres on a patch of green land at the entrance to the main driveway. And adding insult to injury, they were dumped near to both the town's war memorial and the church noticeboard.

People from the church were also upset the tyres had been left in full view of the road spoiling the appearance of the place of worship.

Church leaders today said the tyres had now been removed – but did not know who had taken them.

Parishoners say they are still sickened over what happened and are concerned the situation will happen again.

Noel Hughes, a member of the church, said he had discovered the tyres when he had visited the church to make plans for a coming event.

"I was putting up a poster advertising a church concert on the noticeboard and I could not believe my eyes when I saw what someone had done," he said.

"There on the ground right next to the board, in the very driveway to the church, a mound of tyres just dumped there. I think there were around 12 in all. I had been at the church the day before and they had not been there then.

"Somebody must have just drove up overnight and dumped them there not caring it was in the grounds of a church or the impact it would have on people in the area.

"I know this is a problem all over the country but to dump items outside a place of worship is absolutely unbelievable.

"It is also right next to the cenotaph. It is ridiculous someone would do this."

A spokesman for the church said: "Tyres were dumped on land next to both the war memorial and noticeboard and were there for a few days.

"However they have now been removed. We have no idea who has taken them away or what has happened to them."
