Councillor Gordon Alcott and Councillor Frank Allen have had roads named after them on the Bevan Lee estate, Broomhill, Cannock. Normally streets are named by the council or the developers, but this time residents had a competition and a chance to choose the names of the new streets formed in the first stage of this £15million redevelopment.

Cannock North ward councillor, Gordon Alcott said: "It is a great honour.

"As one of the councillors for that ward I'm chuffed that the people have recognised the work that we do.

"Feedback I've had from residents is that they are very pleased about the new houses.

"There have been a number of teething problems with the developers, and builders are continually dealing with these issues, but the residents who have moved back in are over the moon with them."

Councillor Frank Allen said: "I feel very proud and it's all the more gratifying that it was the residents' decision.

"The residents have been absolutely magnificent.

"I don't think I would like to be in their situation being decanted from their homes and then moved back, with all that trouble and worry.

"I think they've been wonderful throughout."

The £15 million redevelopment of the estate will see 108 homes being demolished and replaced with 128 modern houses.

The original Smith type pre-cast reinforced concrete homes belonging to Cannock Chase Council were found to be defective and deteriorating so the council decided to work in partnership with Beth Johnson Housing Association on this project.

Once all three phases are complete the housing association will be the landlord for the tenants.
