David Morgan used to run out of breath just walking upstairs – now he puts his stamina to the test by running long distance events.
The 26-year-old teacher from Featherstone has shed nearly 11 stones in less than a year after being shocked into action by his wedding photos.
And David has become one of Cannock and Wolverhampton's few male weightloss counsellors helping others follow his example.
David used meal replacement shakes before gradually reintroducing food back into his diet, and dropped to 13-and-a-half stones from 24 stones. He lost 17 pounds in the first week.
Spurred to action and devastated by his appearance in his wedding photos last April, he decided to search for a weightloss counsellor to help him battle the bulge.
Mr Morgan said: "I was devastated by the pictures. I think I was in denial, looking in the mirror I saw myself as thin. But the pictures really hit home my situation."
He was concerned when he could not find a male counsellor and believes without his wife he would never have gone to sessions with a woman counsellor.
He said: "I would have felt more comfortable with a male counsellor but I could not find one anywhere.
"I am concerned that there are men out there who will be put off trying to lose weight because they feel uncomfortable going to a woman counsellor."
David has just completed the Shugborough 5K run and is preparing for a 5K Swimathon and the Great North Run half-marathon in October.
He said: "It has totally changed my life. I'm doing things I couldn't have dreamed of doing before because I was just not physically capable of doing them."
He is now a counsellor for the Cambridge Diet.
He said: "I would never go to slimming classes because I would feel that everyone's eyes would be looking at me. With Cambridge it is all private and confidential."
