Wolves blog: Simpsons at Molineux

Tuesday's postponed game against Scunthorpe reminded me of an old episode of "The Simpsons" writes Wolves blogger Nathan Lloyd.
Bart (Simpson) has an exam on Colonial America coming up, but hasn't done any revision and prays to God that something will happen to make him miss school the next day so he can have more time to study.
That night, Springfield is hit with a massive blizzard and the schools are closed, giving Bart the time he craves for, which he fails to utilise and flunks the test anyway.
With fans emotions running as high as they are, did Mick pray for a similar thing to happen at Molineux?
With tricky trips to Crystal Palace and Colchester to follow, I doubt he did.
I would have thought that Scunthorpe, currently the Championship's bottom club, would have been the ideal antidote to our current woes.
It could be that by the time we face Southampton at home on March 4, that Mick's position at the club could be even more precarious than it currently is, although it would seem precarious only amongst the loyal fans and not with the club.
And we all know just how well this team play against Southampton at Molineux.
The players seem to be well aware of the unrest amongst the majority of the Wolves fans, with a different player coming out almost daily to state that they understand that the pressure is on to turn things around.
Who knows whether this is a PR exercise by the club to try and appease the fans or perhaps some of the players really do care?
Talking of PR; Jez Moxey came out with the dreaded vote of confidence this week for the manager and stated that he is perplexed about questions regarding MM's future at Wolves.
Sorry Jezza old pal, but if you were actually a footballing chairman, like Ray Ranson down the road at Coventry, you might realise that the majority of football this season has been appalling.
Yes we probably over-achieved last season, but I'm getting a little bit bored with hearing that statement.
This season, Mick really had something to build on, but his catalogue of errors has meant he has gone from hero to zero in mine and I think quite a lot of Wolves fan's affections.
I have listed them plenty of times in my blogs, so apologises for going over old ground, but lets just have a quick recap of Mick's mistakes this season; Stephen Ward on the left wing, Karl Henry on the right wing, Neill Collins as left back, Craddock to Stoke, Freddy ignored, moving Keogh to the wing when he finally starts scoring goals as a striker, not buying a centre back, more strikers at the club than Scargill in the 80s, not giving Jones, Gleeson, Little, Rosa or Davies a chance, not looking at the league until May and finally Kevin Kyle.
I'm bound to have missed out a load more, so please feel free to state your own below.
The point is that Jez Moxey may be astute when it comes to running the finances of the club, but I'm sure his footballing knowledge leaves a lot to be desired.
And then Steve Morgan finally breaks his silence and imparts his view on how the season has gone and the criticism that Mick has got.
Morgan blames this season of inadequacies not on McCarthy's obvious downfalls but instead on a young squad and a barrage of injuries.
He can't quite make his mind up though, because he also states that we have a big squad and have had some disappointing performances.
Well surely every team suffers injuries and squad players should be of a high enough standard to come in and be close to the level of the player they are replacing?
And I know he is only trying to rally the troops when he (Morgan) says that we should get behind the team rather than booing and berating them.
But the football has been so bad this season that I don't think the fans can just blindly carry on supporting a team and management that has so badly lost their way.
And I get the feeling that Morgan isn't a massive McCarthy fan either. He has refused to be drawn on whether Mick will be here in the summer.
We have a big squad and Mick is failing to get the best out of them.
This season we have had to endure one dire underperformance followed by another.
We have seen bewildering match day team selections and extremely poor judgement from Mick when it comes to choosing the right area of the team to strengthen in the January transfer window.
I for one am sick of all the spin and excuses coming from the management, the players and the board at the club.
I'm sick of Mick sending last year's good young players on loan.
Stephen Gleeson has just gone to Hereford, where no doubt he will shine and then come back to sit in the reserves.
Why can't someone at the club just be honest and say that for whatever reason, this season has just been awful.
Did somebody say "Early Bird"?
We might only be lying seven points outside the playoffs, but that really doesn't tell the story of our season.
In terms of quality, this is one of the worst Championships I can remember for a long time.
It should have been the perfect opportunity for us to take the bull by the horns and gain the promotion we all so badly crave.
So with 14 games of the season left, many of which are against better placed teams than us, can we still do it?
Without wanting to sound negative, I don't think we'll get in the top 6 come May.
And I don't want Mick to be here next season.
Good luck to the boys down at Selhurst Park this weekend.
Prove to us all that you are good enough to wear that shirt.
